Village of Thornville – Water System Update7/10/2025 @ 7pm

Early Wednesday morning, the Village of Thornville experienced a failure of the chlorinator pump at the municipal wells. This equipment is critical to maintaining safe drinking water by adding chlorine for disinfection.

Village staff responded immediately and attempted several solutions, including replacing the unit with spare pump. The chlorinator was restored and operational by Wednesday morning, but the pump failed again overnight.

Since then, the Village has received support from multiple partners, including Northern Perry County Water, the Villages of Glenford and Crooksville, and Licking County. Their assistance has been invaluable in helping troubleshoot and stabilize the system.

The chlorinator was operational as of 10:00 a.m. Thursday and, as of 4:15 p.m., continued to function as expected. Approximately 96,000 gallons in the water tank are being re-chlorinated. Staff increased the chlorination rate and flushed hydrants Thursday afternoon to circulate treated water.

Our goal is to meet Ohio EPA-required chlorine levels by Friday morning. Once confirmed, a water sample will be driven to the EPA-certified lab in Dover for testing.
